Residential Complex of Bumusa Island

This design was created for the national competition for the Bumusa Island residential complex, held in the winter of 2024 under the supervision of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the National Land and Housing Organization, and the General Directorate of Roads and Urban Development of Hormozgan Province.

The Central Courtyard Project consists of courtyards embraced by spaces of life. We have placed life at the heart of our design, believing that humans are inherently connected to both personal and communal qualities of living. Thus, with an inside-out perspective, we have conceived the project’s architecture at the scale of a micro-city.

The residential units foster a connection with nature by integrating private courtyards, welcoming sunlight and greenery to shape an atmosphere of balance between light and shadow. Each home frames its own slice of the sky, defined by its scope of vision.

This way of living extends to all spaces within the project. From an initial focus on individual life, we have gradually moved towards a collective existence. Thus, these independent homes are arranged beside and atop one another to create coexistence. The staircases continue upward, leading to the central courtyard, where beneath the lone palm tree, neighbors experience togetherness. In this way, the residential block finds its architectural identity.

We remain faithful to the ancient bonds of human social life, while also drawing from accumulated knowledge, shaped by both local traditions and global experiences, to craft these communal spaces. The blocks are strategically repeated, ensuring an optimal balance between quality and quantity. The spatial openings between them foster connections among residents, leading to courtyards at a neighborhood scale.

Ultimately, we have anticipated every aspect necessary for the comfort and well-being of the residents within this micro-city. Thus, by prioritizing individual well-being alongside the creation of private courtyards, we have expanded into larger and larger communal courtyards, bringing life back to the center of collective spaces—shaping a Central Courtyard Project where courtyards truly embrace life.
